Pickleball is a sport, in which four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials, hit a perforated polymer ball, over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules similar to tennis, with a few modifications.
This sport is for people of all ages; easy to learn, but can be challenging for those with a competitive nature.
This sport is for those who are looking for some Fun, Laughter, Socialization and Exercise.
GWSA Pickleball Tournament
(By Neville Newman)
The first ever GWSA Pickleball Tournament (aka Festival) was completed in mid May and to say it was a success is indeed an understatement.
About 60 GWSA members participated and Rudy Simon was widely praised for the set-up and organization of the event. Others who helped with the tournament were Doug Adler and Cheryl Muir. This tournament was geared toward “all levels” of players and the six 8-person teams enjoyed every minute of it. During the tournament the teams, were bolstered by subs whenever a player couldn’t play on a particular day. Congrats to the “Red” team for their success in doing away with all opposition.
Thanks again to Rudy!
Having an in-house tournament of this size shows that the growth of Pickleball is still on the rise. It is an “addictive” sport, perfect for seniors. Socializing is a huge aspect of this sport. Having played different sports and participated on many teams I have found Pickleball to be the friendliest amongst its players. Once our “Cap” can be removed, we will be able to welcome many more people to the GWSA Pickleball Club who are interested in this new popular game.
