Policy Statement

The GWSA is committed to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in all aspects of our organization so that our members feel welcome, valued and engaged.

Diversity refers to race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, marital status, family status, and disability. 

Equity is a process that ensures all people have the opportunity to participate despite historical, structural, legislative, racial, and socio-economic inequities;

Inclusion is valuing, respecting, and encouraging the full participation of each individual in the life and leadership of the organization.

Accessibility is something all Canadians deserve, the right to take part fully in society. At the GWSA it means advancing accessibility and creating barrier-free programs and services. 

Our organization works actively to work to understand and remove barriers to equity and inclusion, be they systematic, physical, or otherwise. In addition, we will monitor legislation and standards, identity needs and provide guidance in regard to accessibility.

We are committed to ongoing learning and development in the areas of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility so that we can apply an “equity lens” in all areas of our business. Further, the GWSA will adhere to the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians for Disabilities Act (AODA) at all times

Guelph Wellington Seniors Association (GWSA) strives to ensure that all locations used by the GWSA provide barrier free services, supports, environments and employment. GWSA recognizes that the key principles of accessibility are independence, dignity, integration and equality. We are committed to complying with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Human Rights Code.

Service Animals  –  the GWSA welcomes people with disabilities and their service animals. Service animals are allowed on the parts of our premises that are open to the public.

Support Person (as defined under AODA legislation) –  People with a disability who are accompanied by a Support Person will be permitted to enter GWSA premises with their Support Person to equally benefit from the programs and services.   GWSA will ensure that the person with the disability is not prevented from having access to their Support Person while both are at GWSA. Where fees for programs, are required, advance notice will be provided to the support person.
