Solid Waste Master Plan: input

by | May 4, 2021 | External, GWSA News

The City of Guelph invites your participation in a series of upcoming workshops related to initiatives being considered as part of the and the City’s Solid Waste Management Master Plan (SWMMP).  Sessions are currently being planned for late May.

For businesses, residents and others with an interest in Single-Use plastics:

  • Single-Use Plastics: based on a Council directive in 2019, the possibility of a ban on certain single-use plastics in Guelph is being explored. This workshop will be of interest to Guelph residents who are concerned about single-use plastics as well as businesses, such as retailers and restaurants, who would be expected to meet the requirements of potential bans or fees.

For businesses and residents receiving City waste collection services, and waste management companies that provide collection services to Industrial, Commercial & Institutional (IC&I) establishments:

  • IC&I waste collection services review and User Pay options. The City currently provides waste collection services to many institutional and commercial establishments outside the downtown BIA, however there has never been a policy or specific service standard applied to non-residential collection system users. This workshop will explore service options and the potential application of user-pay or pay-as-you-throw strategies to both commercial and residential system users.

For ENGO, non-profits, charities and community-based organizations:

  • Community Support for Organizations Promoting Waste Reduction and Recycling.  The session will explore potential initiatives to support local organizations promoting or enabling reuse and recovery, waste recovery shopping, textile reuse and recovery, and other circular economy activities.

If you are interested in participating in one or more of these workshops, please email [email protected] and identify the session(s) of interest. Additional information about the workshops will be forwarded, including scheduling and online coordinates, when available.
