“HTTPS” stands for “Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure.”  It means that information exchanged between you and a web site is encrypted and cannot be hijacked by someone who might want to electronically eavesdrop when you type a credit card number, a password, a social security number, or any other personal information. The main difference between http:// and https:// is: “It’s all about keeping you secure”. As of yesterday (February 5th, 2016), all pages of the GWSA Website have the https prefix. In addition an extra firewall plugin was installed. These changes were brought about because of the numerous hacking attempts on the site. All users of the website can rest easier knowing that their interaction with the site is much more secure now.
